Anthony Puryear, Marriage and Family Therapist

Hello! I want to give you the opportunity to get to know me a little better.
I grew up in Southeast Kansas and have also lived in St. Louis and Oklahoma City, but Kansas City has been considered "home" since 2001. I attended MidAmerica Nazarene University where I received a Bachelor's degree in Youth and Family Ministry and then served as a youth and worship pastor for 7 years in Olathe. After working as a youth pastor, I received my Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, OK.
In my free time you can probably find me playing disc golf, watching a movie, trying out a new restaurant, or spending time with my family.
I became a therapist because I have a passion for helping people, but also because getting my own therapy was transformational for me. I believe everyone can benefit from therapy in the same way I did.
When it comes to my professional life, I am passionate about working with couples, families, and individuals who are experiencing stress, conflict, relationship difficulties, or any other type of problems. Other types of therapy I provide include pre-marital counseling, family counseling - including parent/child relational issues, and individual counseling for anxiety, depression, managing stress, life direction, EMDR for trauma, and many other issues.
I have an office space in downtown Olathe where I do the majority of my appointments and I also offer virtual appointments if you would prefer that.
I believe there is no one-size-fits-all approach, therefore I use many different counseling theories to match each individual client. I often utilize a solution-focused approach to help clients work towards a future in which their challenges and difficulties are resolved.
